escape! magazine launched, 6 August 2008

And so the journey has begun.

When escape! was first conceptualised, all of us had mixed feelings about the magazine. Cecilia was bouncing around the office, clearly raring to kick-start the project. Vereen started tapping furiously at her laptop. I roller-coastered between oohing and aahing at the gorgeous travel snaps one minute and fantasising about running away to the North Pole the next. Ok, so my plans to abscond failed to materialise and I ended up at the magazine’s launch party on the night of 6 Aug.

For three hours, we welcomed, met and mingled with 300 guests, who turned up in their holiday best (that was the dress code, after all!). Under the starry night sky, we sipped on wine and savoured scrumptious finger-foods served up at the Pool Grill at the Singapore Marriott Hotel.
Cecilia kick-started the celebrations with a thank-you speech, which she delivered in her trademark chirpiness, although her voice turned uncharacteristically emotional at one point. Then again, it could have been the alcohol.
Upping the cheer quotient for everyone was the lucky draw, where prizes were given out to guests. I was chuffed to bits having to present some of the prizes; now I know what it feels like to be the President – stamina, dry palms and a nice smile are prerequisites.

And to demonstrate our appreciation for those who spent the evening with us, each was given a goodie bag at the end of the party. Into an exclusively-designed escape! paper bag, Veronica, Julie, Joanna, Cally, Tasmin and Stefanie (thanks, ladies!) had packed in a galore of treats, ranging from a travel journal and a luggage tag to a travel-sized facial spray and a super-comfy shawl. Oh, our kind sponsor also threw in a lovely ivory-hued Burberry Fragrance overnight bag, which had all the women – and men – thronging the reception counter!

With the second issue in production, we are back at the office, poring through e-mails, text, pictures and pages. No one will say it’s a cushy job, but the positive feedback and generous support and overwhelming encouragement we experienced will motivate us to make escape! even better.
Hop on already!
